The climate of the area is tropical humid typical of the pre-montane forest, with temperatures that vary from 15 to 24 °C. In fact, to visit it, it is recommended during the dry season (from December to May approximately) to wear comfortable shoes, loose clothing and water; in the rainy season a poncho or cape cannot be missing.
Let’s enter Río Celeste
There are several ways to get to this beautiful destination, you can do it through Zurquí, Zarcero or through Upala. You should know that to arrive directly at this destination you must walk a natural trail of 1.5 kilometers with medium difficulty.
In the area known as the Teñidero is where the magic begins, it is almost unreal to be able to contemplate the change of tonality between the crystalline colored waters coming from the Buena Vista and Quebrada Agria rivers on the slopes of the Tenorio volcano and the conversion to this impressive turquoise phenomenon. I guarantee you that although it is not allowed to bathe in this destination, your eyes and other senses are assured an experience without equal that very few people in the world can enjoy.
This tourist attraction is composed of more interesting sites such as the Blue Lagoon, a pool where the light blue color of the water is better appreciated. Subsequently there are also the "hervideros" or "borbollones" which are cracks through which gases escape that are the result of volcanic activity that can reach 31 to 94 °C. Thanks to this situation there are also hot springs.
Following the normal course of the river, the maximum descent can be found, the imposing Río Celeste waterfall which presents a height of approximately 30 meters and it is quite a delight to contemplate its strength and imposing action.
Dare to travel this incredible natural destination out of the ordinary and see firsthand why an ancient local legend narrates that the waters of Río Celeste have that color because God himself, when he finished painting the sky, washed the brushes in these waters.
